two years we were looking
for larger premises. The only
problem was where?”
Their answer, and the catalyst
for where they have reached
today, was when another animal
health representative told them
that farm supplies shop owner
Ray Green, who ran a small
retail establishment just outside
Northallerton Mart, had sadly
passed away.
“The rep said we ought to go
over and speak to the people
selling the business and that’s
what we did. We borrowed
some money and bought it
and it really has been the most
amazing story since. What is
particularly satisfying is that
we have grown the business
doing what we have wanted
to do. We have always set out
our stall to offer good products
at competitive prices, but first
and foremost offering a good
service and looking after our
customers,” he explained.
‘I still enjoy the buzz of talking
to our customers because I love
the banter and I want to keep
in touch with the farmers we
serve. We have a great team
working with Kate and myself
and I’m certainly very proud that
we have managed to employ
a number of local people. One
of the things you find when
a business grows is that you
spend more time talking with
finance people such as bank
managers and accountants
rather than the farmers who
you really want to talk to, but
that happens because of the
growth.”
