The Farmers Mart Feb-Mar 2020 - Issue 67 | Page 58
SNAPSHOT
OF 2019 FARMLAND MARKET
Ongoing political uncertainty has resulted in a record low of farmland acres offered to the market in
2019 throughout Great Britain. In the North of England 20,626 acres of farmland were marketed in 2019
which is 4% less than the previous year, but 12% below the 10 year average.
Nationally supply in G.B at 117,000
acres, was 38% below last years supply
and about 26% less than the 10 year
average. Of particular note was the
East of England and East Midlands
where supply was down 67% and 42%,
illustrating the “wait and see” approach
that some vendors have adopted.
The election result at last clarifies the
direction of travel and guarantees the
total farm support for the term of the
new Parliament. However, until we
have clarity over future trade deals an
element of uncertainty remains which
is likely to continue to restrict supply
going forwards.
Sellers are benefiting from frustrated
buyers, continued demand from
neighbours and purchasers seeking
to reinvest rollover money from
Development land sales. Demand
for sporting and amenity properties
remains strong.
