the name Eric Townend Trailers
became well known and he
would sell something like 250
a year. It was around 197576 that I started getting into
selling other farm machinery
and at that time it was
Ferguson ploughs and other
implements.
“I’ve always enjoyed buying
and selling farm machinery
but now I concentrate on the
wagon driving. I’m down in
Dorset at least once a month
and also travel as far north as
Aberdeen. The Internet has
changed the job a great deal
but machinery still needs to be
delivered. We also continue to
have a good trade with local
customers.”
John also tells of how the
association with York Auction
Centre which organises YAMS,
has been something that has
worked for Townend’s many
years.

first lot to be sold at the first

secondhand stock. He bought
