We’re down about 50 per cent on the throughput we had in 1997 but that’s partly because there is not as much stock about with land going into stewardship; and farmers getting paid for not keeping so many animals. In more recent times, livestock producers have come back and are continuing to come back to the live auction system because they can see their stock weighed, sold and can get their money instantly. The vendor gets paid on the day and that is something that they still don’t get elsewhere,” he explained.
