LIVESTOCK BENTHAM RECORDS BROKEN WITH £3350 BID For the second year running, Bentham Auction Mart’s Annual Christmas Show & Sale of Dairy broke existing market records. From the 61 cattle forward for sale, Maurice & David Wannop of Heaton had the successful bid of £3350, purchasing the Champion beast shown by Francis & David Wright of Helsington. Pedigree heifer, ‘Berryholme Steady Flo’, bred from the Wright’s best maternal line the ‘Flo’ family, had been calved 18 days and was giving 37kgs, attracted much attention in the ring and was a very worthy winner of the Championship ticket, tapped forward by judges Mr Robin Boothman of Fence & Mr John Lawson of Bentham. The Wannop’s also purchased the top price non-pedigree heifer at £2480, which was 16 days calved giving 28kgs from Mark & Heather Atkinson of Quernmore. The Atkinson’s also achieved a price of £2450 when Stephen Robinson of Burton in Lonsdale purchased ‘Wyredale Amazing Maisie 2’ which had been calved 21 days giving 29kgs. Peter & David Knowles of New Hutton also achieved a price of £2450 for their second prize Pedigree Heifer ‘Kendalcragg Smith Promise’ a very correct heifer, 20 days calved giving seven gallons. Four cattle achieved prices of £2400; the first prize non-pedigree heifer bred at Tatham Hall, shown by Mike & Ken Robinson of Farleton, the first prize homebred heifer ‘Daleside DZ Pictured l-r: Vendors Francis & David Wright, Judges Robin Boothman & John Lawson with the Champion animal & new record holder ‘Berryholme Steady Flo’. • Weighing Solutions are the market leader in the design, supply and installation of Livestock Auction Mart Weighbridges. • We manufacture a standard and bespoke range of Prime and Store Cattle, Sheep and Pig Scales. • All weighbridge decks are fully galvanised for durability. The introduction of a coloured class was deservedly won by David & Rob Willison of Levens with an extremely correct newlycalved pedigree Jersey heifer, leading the way from Robert Sunderland of Apspatria with his Shorthorn x Heifer, and Colin Price of Keasden with a Red & White Holstein.
