manner right down to the odd
golfer who may sport a terse
and unswerving viewpoint
occasionally.
The family runs the business
side of things and a committee
runs the actual Golf Club which
works admirably well. Thanks to
Eileen the restaurant is a great
success, so much so that they
want to build on it particularly
on the functions side, as
Scarthingwell is an idyllic
location for parties, weddings
etc.
Kathy is continually looking for
new ideas to build the business.
Earlier I mentioned the buildings
date back to 1751- they really
are stunning. Kathy is now
utilising the fantastic vaulted
medieval barns previously used
for grain storage for functions
such as wedding’s HoDowns,
Hog Roasts, Barbeques etc.

Basically you rent the Barns
for your event and you can
decorate them how you likethere is ample room for parking,
catering, marquees etc. Kathy
has built huge firepits and burns
logs from the managed forest
area, so you are kept warm as
toast, dry as a bone but in this
fantastic old farm setting.
Time does not stand still
at Scarthingwell: as well as
the course maintenance, tree
trimming etc Kathy is doing
her bit for the environment by
creating wild meadow in some
of the rough areas of the course.
Also there are plans for path
upgrades, bigger bridges for
buggies and improved drainage
as well as developing the old
farm buildings further.
Scarthingwell is anything but
just a Golf Course – It has so
much to offer on top of a great
Golf Experience. Run by Kathy,
Eileen and their committed team
the Pick’s family will be here for
another 100 years.
