have one farmer at Danby who
has 50 cows and I buy all of
his calves in one lot. They’re
usually about a year old when I
get them,” he told me.
“Ruswarp is our local
livestock market and it does
well with both sheep and store
cattle.”
Barnby Tofts Farm runs to
some 200 acres but Ron
also has another 100 acres

in separate lots away from
the home farm. He grows
100 acres of corn, with the
harvest used to feed the cattle
although he also purchases a
further 200-300 tonnes a year.
The same story occurs with
straw.
“We bale 800 of our own but
end up buying another 1,600
bales to get us through,” he
said. “Our cattle feed
