We have restored a 1954 Grey Fergie bought as a ‘rust bucket’ and are fortunate to have a daughter, Lauren, who works in the parts department for Ripon Farm Services at Darrington who can help. The other member of Joanne’s family is son, Ewan. Ian is married to Jacqui and they have three boys – George (12), Alfie (10) and Charlie (7). Alfie is already showing signs of being a real farming character. He can drive the farm’s Manitou and already stacks bales 12 high. He spends a lot of time with his granddad often coming ‘They started out with a few hens and then a few pigs and had a bit of a smallholding’ to the farmhouse on Friday after school and stopping over until Sunday evening. “At one time we wondered what was happening to all the eggs the hens were laying,” laughs John. ‘Then we found out Alfie was selling them around the village and to his teachers! He’s been here before, that’s for sure!’ John is married to Hilary. It was John’s father, Robert who first To read more, visit www.farmers-mart.co.uk Ripon Farm services are pleased to be associated with the Bulmers of School House Farm came to School House Farm. His brother George had School Farm just across the green. They both worked at Nostell colliery. John tells of how they started in farming. “Dad was an electrician at the pit. They started out with a few hens and then a few pigs and had a bit of a smallholding. They lived in a cottage at the top of a hill, took on School Farm and then this one. Robert and his wife, May then started a milk round. They used to bottle what they bought from Express Dairies in Wakefield and deliver it in this area. My brother David and I took over the milk round but we finished in 2007. Ian and Joanne also did it but the business faded away as the supermarkets took over.” If you are interested in Joanne’s tractor run for next year you can contact her on 07956 118416.
