The Bulmers farming operation
runs to 22 owned acres plus
300 acres of rented grass. They
tenant another 95 acres which
they share farm with Metcalfe
Farming.

Livestock is their main farming
enterprise at School House
and they have a suckler herd of
120 cows. They use pedigree
Simmental, Limousin and
Belgian Blue bulls.
“We sell as stores at 12-15
months with the majority sold
at Skipton,” says Joanne. “We
always kept some cattle before
I started that we used to fatten
and sell at York, but I started
our beef suckler herd with just
two and we’ve kept more and
more until we have reached
the number we have today. We
breed our own replacements
keeping around 14-16 a year.”
