invested where and when he could in
equipment and fittings, never losing sight
of his two staples in business, quality and
good service.
Initially, Brindon bought all his meat live
from Penistone Market, just selling raw
meat to start with and then cooked meats
as well as the business grew.
He reached a point in 1998, just six
years in, when he felt it was time to push
things forward and go for membership
of the Butchers Q Guild, who stand for
skill, craftsmanship and above all, quality.
Being a member of the Guild really
acknowledges that you are at a higher
level.
To Brindon’s amazement he was
refused, on account of his shop not
being up to a high enough standard.
Knowing how keen he was, one of the
Guild members took Brindon to see a
local award-winning Guild member who
is now a firm friend: the award-winning
Lishman’s of Ilkley. Wow! Brindon was
blown away at the standard of their
premises. He now had a goal to aim for!
He came straight back to Hay Edge and
ripped out his counter and replaced it
and converted the back shop into a deli.
After some more cosmetic attention, he
re-applied and just got in. Phew!
Things have now turned full circle as
Brindon himself is now regional chairman
for the Q Guild.
