we used to buy-in about that

little closer it may be that we
are not going to lose out too
much.”
The Wyrills have made some
big decisions in recent times
with regard to their dairy herd.
The first was the change to
robotic milking. They now
have two Lely Astronauts. The
second was switching from
selling their milk from Arla to
the Wensleydale Creamery in
October 2013.
“We now have shorter lines
of communication and can talk
directly with David Hartley, the
managing director; and with
me taking on the chairmanship
of the TFA, the robots will
hopefully take some of the
pressure off Graham,” Stephen
said.
“Ideally, I’d like to expand the
dairy herd to around 140 cows
in the future, but I also want to
get through this first year as
chairman and get our message
across as professionally as I
can.!”
Stephen already has several
plans in mind and one of those
is currently uppermost.
“I’m pushing to put an end
to short-term Farm Business
Tenancies (FBTs),” he said.
“All these do is encourage
you to farm it out - you cannot
afford to put any long term
planning into it. How can
young first-time farmers plan
their future when what they
have could be taken away
inside three to five years? It
just doesn’t make any sense. I
want the CLA to feel as though
they have to do something
about it.”
But he also wants the TFA to
become known for more than
just one topic.
“A lot of people know about
the work of the NFU and know
a little about the TFA but don’t
understand what we do.
