Even though it ’ s getting cold , some birds stay here year-round . Did you know that birds stay warm by trapping pockets of air around their bodies ? Give your local birds a boost of energy by making a pine cone bird feeder ! We will be making our bird feeders with shortening instead of peanut butter for a nut-safe experience . Are you and your four-legged friend tired of the same old walk ? Then bring Fido and Spot out to W . S . Gibbs Memorial Park and join one of our naturalists for a winter walk ! We will be blazing a path for our frosty paws together . During the hike we will find out what your K-9 ’ s ancestor , the coyote , is doing during these winter months . Meet near the fishing dock .
Please dress for the weather , and don ’ t forget those leashes , as all dogs must remain leashed in the park . Participants will receive a special goodie bag ( while supplies last ) from Paw Street Bakery , which is located in Plainfield and is a great place for you and your fur baby to go after this program !
Note : The Camber family once brought a St . Bernard named Cujo to one of our programs , and it turned into a whole big thing ... So this program is only for dogs who are friendly around other dogs and people .

Teens , can you hunt any kind of animal you want at any time and anywhere with any kind of weapon ? Can you keep as many fish as you can catch ? Can you dump motor oil into a culvert to get rid of it ? Join us as we learn about the laws designed to protect nature and the people who enforce those laws .
Could parks and recreation be a career option for you ? This program is designed to provide a no-pressure look into parks and recreation careers for teenagers who are contemplating their futures after high school . The program lasts from 10 a . m . to 2 p . m . and participants will be provided lunch .

Enjoy a relaxing fire and some snacks with a naturalist for this fireside chat . Practice fire-starting skills using a variety of methods . After our campfire is crackling , we ’ ll provide you with some hot dogs , campfire popcorn , and s ’ mores to enjoy ! Participants will also receive a collectible HCP & R patch .
