ENJOY ASTRONOMY AT MCCLOUD NATURE PARK !
Beyond the realm of our solar system are some of the most spectacular objects you ’ ll ever see ! Learn to identify and observe them in the deep night sky above McCloud Nature Park ! The Indiana Astronomical Society will present a brief informational session , rain or shine , describing the celestial objects to be observed , followed by outdoor stargazing under clear skies only . Learn to use the powerful telescopes provided to share , or bring your own .
All Astronomy programs are held on Saturdays at McCloud Nature Park . They are recommended for ages 6 through adult , FREE to attend , and no advance registration is required . Each program is approximately 2 hours in duration .

Vandalia Trail , Amo Trailhead
Decorate your bike , scooter , stroller , or wheelchair and let ’ s go for a ride on the Vandalia Trail !
Show off your creativity and then join a naturalist and community partners for an easy bike ride along the paved trail . The parade begins at 4 p . m ., so decorate your ride in advance , or arrive early to decorate it at the Amo trailhead with supplies that our naturalist will bring ! Participants are strongly recommended to wear helmets . The trip will consist of a 1.5-mile ride out from the start and a 1.5-mile return for a total of three miles . Participants may turn back at any point along the trail if they would like to return sooner . Modern ADA-accessible restrooms and water fountains are available at the Amo trailhead but not at the turn-around point . Dress for the weather and bring a water bottle .

Enjoy a relaxing afternoon at the park while painting this beautiful vase of flowers . Instructor Sherri Weir will guide participants in step-by-step directions , and all participants can be confident to walk away with a beautiful piece of art . All supplies are provided . This is an outdoor class , so dress for the weather . These painting sessions fill quickly , so don ’ t delay in registering ! Meet at Firefly Shelter .

Gibbs Memorial Park ’ s pond for our annual FREE Family Fishing Derby . Earn a fish plaque for your wall and 2023 bragging rights in one of the three categories : most fish , largest fish , or smallest fish caught ! No fishing license is required on this statewide IDNR Free Fishing Day . Meet at the fishing dock .

Hendricks County Parks is partnering with Jiffy Lube in Avon to offer this FREE workshop ! You will learn how to change a tire , know what all of those warning lights mean on the dashboard , and know how to check fluids and filters .
