Intro to Disc Golf Saturday , Oct . 8 • 3 p . m . W . S . Gibbs Memorial Park
Have you ever wanted to try disc golf ? Here ’ s your chance ! Hendricks County Parks and Recreation is partnering with the Hendricks County Disc Golf Club to offer this training seminar . Hands-on practice will include driving and putting , and the event will conclude with a “ ring of fire ” competition with prizes ! All skill levels are welcome .

A Walk in the Trees Saturday , Oct . 15 • 9:30 a . m . Vandalia Trail , Amo trailhead ( see page 3 for address )
With autumn upon us , join a naturalist on a leisurely stroll amongst the trees on the Vandalia Trail . With the peak of color due at about this time , the fall foliage should abound . Brush up on your tree identification skills and enjoy a folk tale or two . Bring good shoes , a water bottle , and a camera . The hike will go to the Crittenden Creek Bridge ( approximately 1 mile ) and back ; however , you can return on your own to the Amo trailhead at any point … or continue on without the naturalist .
Hiking terrain info : easy level of difficulty ; paved ADA-accessible trail ; up to 2 miles .

Eastern Hemlocks : Remnants from a Different Age Saturday , Oct . 15 • 11 a . m . McCloud Nature Park
Have you ever been to Turkey Run or Shades State Parks and enjoyed that evergreen rainforest feeling you get while hiking the box canyons ? Those same evergreens can be found at McCloud Nature Park ! Join Summer Rathon , a Purdue grad student , for this kid-friendly demonstration to discover Indiana ’ s glacial history , all about eastern hemlocks , and what you can do to help preserve these special trees in Indiana . We will create our own glaciers , as well as take a walk to look at McCloud ’ s very own eastern hemlock trees .
Hiking terrain info : easy to moderate level of difficulty ; crushed gravel trails ; up to 0.5 mile .

Archery : My Buddy and Me Wednesday , Oct . 19 • 2 p . m . McCloud Nature Park
Try archery with your younger buddy ! Archery can build confidence of young people , and it ’ s a great way to build a better connection with your buddy . One hour will be spent on developing your form in a safe manner without arrows . A bow string training aid will be provided so that you can continue to practice your form at home . The rest of the session will be spent practicing with bows and arrows .
RECOMMENDED FOR AGES 9 THROUGH ADULT . CHILDREN MUST REGISTER AND ATTEND WITH AN ADULT . FEE : $ 5 / PERSON ADVANCE REGISTRATION REQUIRED BY OCT . 12 APPROXIMATE PROGRAM DURATION : 2 HOURS

Are you interested in trying archery but don ’ t want to be in a class with a bunch of kids ? This introductory class is just for you ! One hour will be spent on developing your form in a safe manner without arrows . A bow string training aid will be provided so that you can continue to practice your form at home . The rest of the session will be spent practicing with bows and arrows .
