We All Have a Lil Witch In Us … W. I. T. C. H.
One Who Works with Nature!
by Tara Wolf, contributing writer
Ever made someone’ s favorite meal with intention and love baked in it? Or perhaps used an herbal tea for a sore throat or cough? Or even maybe stood in nature and just felt ALIVE! Well Hunny … You’ re a Witch!
We all have a Lil Witch in us. Not the broom-riding, cackling caricature from fairy tales’ kind, but a quiet, intuitive kind that remembers how to work with the earth, listen to our bodies, and honor the unseen rhythms of life.
For centuries, the word“ Witch” was used to instill fear or shame, but in recent years, we’ ve been reclaiming the word. Today’ s witchcraft is less about spells in the dark of night and more about the everyday magic of living in alignment with nature and self.
To even speak of this is truly a magical moment. Thousands of years ago, you would have burnt me at the stake. But did you know that widowed or women landowners were once sought out and wrongfully accused of practicing witchcraft? European and early colonial witch hunts and accusations of witchcraft had less to do with genuine belief in sorcery and more to do with power, property, and social control— but that’ s a whole other rabbit hole for another day.
Let’ s dive into how being a witch is not taboo, you’ re not dark, and you don’ t have to be an old woman living in the forest, bathing in the blood of townsmen! Unless that’ s your thing.
Witch’ s ointments with scented oils would cause some concern. But the roots of modern witchy wellness lie in what healers used— plants, minerals, and knowledge passed down through generations. Many of those remedies have stood the test of time! Lavender is still known to calm the nervous system. Peppermint still helps soothe digestion. Honey is still antibacterial. The difference now is that these remedies often sit alongside modern medicine, not in place of it. The witch within us doesn’ t reject doctors or science— we simply know there’ s room for balance.
Everyday Magic in a Modern World
Modern witchy practices are often about intention. Lighting a candle during meditation, stirring herbal tea clockwise while thinking of what you want to invite into your life, writing affirmations under the new moon— these are acts that blend mindfulness with symbolism. They remind us that our thoughts, words, and energy matter.
Holistic living also means paying attention to the body’ s natural signals. In a witchy sense, this is called“ listening to your inner voice.” Maybe that means resting when you’ re tired instead of pushing through. Maybe it’ s choosing food that feels nourishing rather than simply convenient. Maybe it’ s creating boundaries to protect your energy. These small decisions add up to a healthier, more intuitive life.
The Science and Spirit Connection
Our great-grandmothers, grandmothers, and even our own mothers and Aunties have all practiced a lil witchcraft on us. Maybe a special paste on a bee-sting, a special soup when you’ re sick, or they just be knowing things. We could all go back to remember a time when you didn’ t question what they were doing, you just followed along.
Modern witchy living blends holistic wellness, ancient traditions, and mindful self-care into a lifestyle that feels both grounded and empowering. In a world where many of us are overworked, overstimulated, and disconnected from our roots, tapping into this“ little witch” is a reminder that healing is not only in hospitals or pharmacies— it can also be in our kitchens, gardens, and daily rituals.
Using essential oils for healing was also a no-no back in the day.
Embracing my Lil Witch!
One of the most fascinating things about the modern witch movement is how science often validates what tradition has known for centuries. Studies confirm the calming effects of mindfulness and meditation. Herbal remedies like turmeric have proven anti-inflammatory properties. Spending time in nature reduces stress hormones and improves mood. Whether you see these benefits as“ magic” or“ science,” the result is the same! Your Lil Witch knows they work!
Reclaiming your Lil Witch!
To embrace your inner Lil Witch is to give yourself permission to be curious, connected, and creative with your wellness. It’ s about seeing your body as a part of nature, not separate from it. It’ s about
