Part 2

Tried and True Methods to Grow Big Plants . by Jay Richardson , contributing writer

It ’ s kind of weird , but this is the third November I have written an article for The EVOLUTION Magazine . Time has really been moving fast lately , and that ’ s a good thing if you are waiting for some marijuana plants to hurry up and grow . I planted some seeds 40 days ago , and they are moving right along . I have two different types of plants going . There are three traditional “ Photo Period ” plants and three that are a variety called “ Autoflower .”

If you read my October article , you already know a little bit about Autoflower . It is derived from a kind of cannabis called Ruderalis . Unlike cannabis Sativa and Indica , which begin flowering in the autumn as the days shorten and winter approaches , cannabis Ruderalis flowers regardless of the amount of light it receives . It comes from the parts of Siberia and Asia where the winters are harsh and arrive quickly . The plants acquired the autoflower trait to ensure the survival of the species and ensure that seeds will be available when spring arrives and the lifecycle continues .
Again , if you read my October article , I apologize for being redundant . If you don ’ t know what redundant means , I apologize for using fancy words . As our loyal readers are already aware , cannabis Ruderalis has very low levels of THC . Cannabis breeders have crossed the Ruderalis with Sativa and Indica to create a wide variety of very potent hybrids that contain the autoflower trait . The seeds
available for purchase on the commercial market are also genetically modified to produce feminized seeds , meaning they only create female plants . When you are paying close to twenty dollars per seed , it ’ s important not to get male plants . ( See Ruderalis plant photos on far right page .)
I am currently growing two different strains of Autoflower . I have two called Gorilla Auto ( photo above ) from a company called 42 Fast Buds and one that is OG Kush from DGTseeds . com . DGT stands for Dr . Green Thumb , and that is the person who kindly supplied the seeds . He also gave me some Pineapple Crush from Barney ’ s Farm in Amsterdam ( see the “ Photo Period ” Pineapple Crush plant below with no buds at this point ). These traditional Indica plants are gorgeous and show the perfect traits for
an indoor garden . As you can see in the photo , the seedlings are short and extremely bushy , and even though they are not flowering , they are very fragrant .
I must give full disclosure and tell you that I am kind of a newbie when it comes to Autoflower . Not very many people grow it , and there is not an incredible amount of information available . Like everything else on the Internet , you must sort through the bullshit . If I get something incorrect or that you don ’ t agree with , let me know . If you have photos of your plants , please include them ; if they are good enough , they may show up in a future issue .
