Hemp Fiber

History , Uses , and Applications

by Danielle Buntyon , contributing writer

The history of hemp fiber dates to antiquity . Hemp fabric was documented in ancient China as early as 2800 B . C . Since then , the use of hemp fiber has evolved through the centuries . In ancient times , hemp fiber was used for canvas and sails for ships . Due to its superior strength and durability , it was a staple part of the global maritime industry . In fact , the word “ canvas ” is derived from the Latin word “ cannabis .”

Hemp has been a vibrant crop in Japan for thousands of years .
By the 19th century and the invention of the cotton gin hemp use fell to drastic lows . Currently , hemp has experienced more government support by lifting restrictions and allowing researchers to study the many potential benefits of this crop . There is no doubt that hemp is a very versatile plant , as we all know . There are a variety of applications for this plant that stretch well beyond food , skincare , and beauty products . Here , we will take a closer look at the incredible benefits derived from hemp fiber and how it can help reduce our carbon footprint .
What are the benefits of hemp fiber ?
There has been a long history of hemp fiber being used to make textiles , ropes , cloth , and even paper for thousands of years . Recent years have seen a tremendous rise in this product ’ s popularity because of its benefits to the environment . It is a sustainable crop that can be easily grown without harsh chemicals or pesticides , and it is a
crop that is easily harvested as well . It yields four times more fiber per acre than cotton , using half the water , which makes it a great alternative to cotton . Hemp has many benefits that may be able to change the world . Some of these are anti-microbial , all-natural , and pest-resistant , which are all positive things for the environment .
There are many uses for hemp fiber — here are some of them .
A side note that needs to be made is that hemp resin contains incredibly strong fibers that are eight times stronger than cotton fibers . Such fibers are another advantage of hemp resin . The advantage of using them is that they are well suited to long-lasting and durable fabrics , e . g ., denim jeans and bed linen . It is important to note that hemp fibers are soft , breathable , and resistant to the growth of bacteria by nature . Several studies have also shown that hemp fibers are used in construction materials such as insulation , carpeting , and wall coverings . As a result of the thermal insulation provided by hemp , you will be able to reduce your energy bills in the winter . You will be able to stay warm in the summer and keep your house cool in the winter . The reason for this is that it always keeps your house warm .
Hemp can reduce our carbon footprint .
As a final point , hemp has been shown to be a promising tool for reducing carbon emissions due to its ability to sequester carbon from the atmosphere into the soil . This has made it a promising tool for reducing carbon emissions . Hemp is known to be one of the most potent carbon sequestrants on the planet . As a result , scientists have learned that hemp can absorb more carbon than any forest or commercial crop per hectare .
● One ton of industrial hemp stems can store 0.445 metric tons of carbon taken directly from the atmosphere of the Earth .
● As much as 44.46 percent of the dry weight of the stem can be attributed to carbon captured by the stem .
