Moon Rocks
Moon rocks aren’ t technically an extracted concentrate alone. They’ re actually a combination product made by coating cannabis flower in cannabis oil before rolling it in kief. The result is one of the strongest smokable cannabis products available, often testing far higher in THC than flower alone. Because moon rocks burn differently than traditional flower, they require a little preparation. Moon rocks are generally not recommended for new cannabis consumers because of their high potency.
Kief
Kief is one of the oldest and simplest cannabis concentrates. It consists entirely of loose trichomes that naturally separate from cannabis flower during grinding or handling. Although less potent than many modern extracts, kief remains incredibly versatile and preserves the natural characteristics of the original cannabis strain. Many cannabis consumers collect kief in the bottom chamber of their grinders before using it in various ways.
Live Resin
Live resin remains one of the most sought-after concentrates because of its exceptional flavor and aroma. Rather than drying the cannabis after harvest, cultivators immediately freeze fresh plants before extraction. This preserves volatile terpenes that are often lost during traditional curing. The result is a sticky, sauce-like concentrate packed with cannabinoids and the natural flavors of the original strain. Live resin is popular among consumers who value a full-spectrum cannabis experience.
Rosin
Rosin has become increasingly popular throughout Missouri( and in general) because it is completely solventless. Instead of using chemical solvents, producers apply heat and pressure to cannabis flower, hash, or kief to squeeze out resin. Many consumers appreciate rosin because it contains only the natural compounds extracted from the cannabis plant.
Although they often look similar, live resin and rosin are produced using completely different methods. Live resin uses hydrocarbon solvents to extract cannabinoids and terpenes from freshly frozen cannabis. This process is highly effective at preserving the plant’ s original aroma and flavor. Rosin, by contrast, is completely solventless. Producers simply apply heat and pressure to cannabis flower, hash, or kief to squeeze out the resin naturally. Many consumers choose rosin specifically because it contains no added solvents during extraction. Both products can provide exceptional flavor, potency, and terpene preservation.
There are several ways to consume the concentrates previously mentioned, and the right method depends on both the product and your experience level. Some of the most common methods include:
Dabbing
Dabbing remains the most popular option. A dab rig( which may need to be purchased at a glass shop or other retail outlet if not sold at your local dispensary) heats a small amount of concentrate on a quartz nail or banger before the vapor is inhaled. Electronic dab rigs, such as Puffco devices and similar portable e-rigs, have simplified the process by allowing users to select precise temperatures without a torch.
Concentrate vaporizers
These provide another convenient option. These portable electric devices are designed specifically for wax, rosin, budder, live resin, and other extracts. These can be purchased in dispensaries.
Pre-filled vape cartridges
Vape cartridges / vape pens are the fastest-growing categories of concentrates because they offer portability, convenience, and consistent dosing. Live resin and rosin cartridges are especially popular for consumers seeking premium flavor.
Many consumers also enhance flower by adding a small amount of concentrate( especially kief or moon rocks) to bowls, pipes, blunts, or joints. This method can significantly increase potency while preserving the familiar smoking experience.
Something important to keep in mind is that traditional cannabis flower generally contains between 15 % and 30 % THC, while many concentrates routinely test between 60 % and 95 % THC. Because they remove much of the non-psychoactive plant material, concentrates deliver significantly more cannabinoids in a much smaller amount of product.
The duration of concentrate effects depends on several factors, including dosage, product type, THC content, individual metabolism, and personal tolerance. For inhaled concentrates, effects typically begin within minutes and may last anywhere from two to four hours, though some consumers experience lingering effects for longer. As always, remember to start low and go slow— a tiny amount of a cannabis concentrate, especially with dabbing, can produce very strong effects.
With Missouri’ s cannabis market continuing to expand, consumers have more concentrate options than ever before. Whether you prefer the terpene-rich flavor of live resin, the solventless purity of rosin, the intense potency of THCA diamonds, or the versatility of kief, understanding how each product is made and consumed can help you make informed purchasing decisions.
