Kick Start the Day with Coffee and Cannabis

by Sean Keast , contributing writer

Sitting down to a little bit of cannabis and coffee at 6:30 a . m . is one of the underrated joys in life . Letting the morning sun ’ s rays mingle with some THC to warm the bones and wash pain away like a hot shower . Or , weather permitting , sip a cup of coffee in the fresh air on the porch with a puff of smoke . While there are many ways to medicate , I ’ ve become quite the fan of my early morning routine .

Speaking of coffee , Heartland Labs produces THC-infused honey , with each jar containing 100mg . In fact , Heartland was among the first to bring this golden , delicious honey to the Missouri Market . It ’ s become a favorite and regular additive of mine for my morning coffee , plus a bit of cream . It tends to be a bit lighter on its effects , and the caffeine mixes well to add a pain-relieving and uplifting feeling to your morning brew .
Drinks
Along with additives like honey , drinkables are becoming very prevalent in today ’ s market . One of the more interesting niches I ’ m seeing in local dispensaries are products like Mohi Beers ( NA ), which are exactly as they sound — a non-alcoholic beer that happens to contain 5mg of THC . One of the more striking things about this product is the mix of terpene flavors that are experienced . Hops , one of the main ingredients in beer , is also a potent terpene producing plant , just like cannabis . The mix of the two into a single beverage creates a terpene mixture for your taste buds that is surprisingly enjoyable and refreshing when cold .
Concentrates
Also , WYNK Take Five Cannabis seltzers — best served cold , have found their way into my shopping bag during the last few dispensary visits . These seltzers contain 5mg of THC and CBD , making good use of the “ Entourage Effect ” for a low impact and very relaxed experience . WYNK flavors are quite tasty , with my personal favorite being the Mango . In addition to the experience , the price is rather enjoyable too , with each retailing for about $ 6 .
Outside of edibles and drinkables , I typically start and / or get through the day with concentrates , as I ’ m the type that enjoys a single , large hit before I go about my business . One of the more recent developments
I ’ ve seen with concentrates are mixed source batches , with two different sugars whipped together to create a new concentrate . One of the standouts is Heartland Labs ’ Headband Cookies x Jasmine Thai Shatter . It has a beautiful golden color and texture , and when vaporized , it leaves very little dark tar — a sign of leftover plant material . It leaves one feeling elevated and motivated but relaxed and cheerful . Another standout concentrate is Teal Cannabis ’ Clementine Sugar . These sugar-style concentrates have been very high-quality from Teal , and this one is no different with a pungent , terpene-filled flavor . The Clementine strain leaves one relaxed but elevated , and in a concentrate form — it ’ s highly relaxing and offers a euphoric effect .
Some mornings , I might opt for a pre-roll and one that surprised me full stop was the Jasmine Dragon by Sinse Cannabis . While having a lower THC content relative to other strains , it produced a gentle , uplifting , and awakening effect that really kicks one into gear as the day gets rolling . Its flavor is fine as well , with a smooth smoke — one of my favorite reasons to go with a pre-roll .
Whether you are a coffee drinker like me or part of the tea camp for your morning brew , one thing is for certain ; cannabis is a fantastic way to begin the day . It uplifts the mood , washes away aches and pain , and kicks one into gear for the day ahead . A hearty breakfast ( or even a second breakfast ) is in order too .
As the spring continues to blossom , even more products will hit the local dispensary shelves . Budtenders and patients alike are continually experiencing a localized boom of variety . Even my own choices are colored by the ever-changing wide variety of late , as each dispensary visit yields fantastic products that are , to be frank , worth it every time .
