Why does whether you like
your doctor actually matter?
There have been widespread
studies to show that there
are two main effects driving
how much you respond to the treatment
you receive from your health care
practitioner:
responds to the treatment the chiropractor
provides
well known as placebo effects –
psychological, emotional or social
effects stemming from the interaction
with the chiropractor
one to one time
with your Chiropractor - it has always
been important to us that we build good
relationships with our patients because
we want them to like us! But actually
how important is this to whether you
will get better or not?
The power of the doctor-patient
relationship
is
often
massively
underestimated. What you think of your
doctor, and what your doctor thinks
of you, affects the likelihood of you
responding well to the treatment and

expectations; your chiropractor’s empathy
and how well he/she demonstrates this;
your chiropractor’s communication style
and skills; and the overall relationship

This does all sound a little ‘wishy washy’,
and some people might prefer we focus
our ongoing training on honing our
technique skills, or diagnostic skills
for example. But the impact that these
non-specific effects have to the overall
outcome of the patient’s treatment are
