MULTICULTURALISM OF THE CURRICULUM
The College ’ s Strategic Directions state that all graduates will possess the core employability skills necessary to continue to learn while successfully engaged in a career . One of the key areas of focus is to ensure that 100 % of all programs at NWTC have multiculturalism built into their curriculum . The overall goal is to provide experiences for students to build their ability to :
• Work within and build up teams that are multicultural .
• Understand the influences and assumptions within their career fields in order to be able to navigate cross-cultural intersections .
• Effectively navigate unfamiliar spaces and places ( real or virtual ).
• Resolve cross-cultural conflict .
Multicultural education allows learners to explore and evaluate the impact of their own assumptions , behaviors , values , and communication styles within a diverse society and workplace with the intention to navigate and negotiate cross-cultural situations . To achieve this outcome , employees and students must continuously engage in experiences that allow them to seek new perspectives , recognize their own biases , and utilize job-specific tools and resources that foster critical thinking and cultural awareness .
Faculty , staff and students can also utilize the NWTC library resources to find educational materials and expand one ’ s thinking .
