Getting Together, Working Together... Alum mentors and their mentees decide how they wish to communi- cate: some only communicate via email or Facebook; others meet for coffee, and some mentors bring students to their workplace to give students a glimpse of their working lives. There is no one single way to mentor a student; most important of all for the student is getting to talk to someone who has graduated from our program and gone on to have a successful career. For a list of careers alumni have gotten, click here. Every semester (in November and April) the English Department hosts a mixer for alums and students who have been involved in this program. It’s a great way to catch up with what’s going on at OU and to reconnect with former professors and fellow graduates. We have mentors who graduated 30 years ago, and mentors who gradu- ated only last year. Last year’s graduates were mentees themselves and now are eager to give back to others. If you are interested in becoming a mentor or a mentee, please email Professor Annie Gilson. Let her know what year you graduated or will graduate, and the different positions you have held over the course of your career, or the career(s) you’re interested in exploring. She will pair you up with someone whose interests match up with yours. Please click here to read about Alumni Mentor Guidelines. The English Department looks forward to welcoming you back! 13 ac Since the fall of 2012, the English Department has paired up Eng- lish alums with English major juniors and seniors to help students make the transition from school to career.
