ECOBOOST RECALLS
ECOBOOST RECALLS
A couple of high profile recalls for cooost cars hae been noted, although the faults were not specifically related to the EcoBoost tech, with a recall of the Focus 1.0-litre EcoBoost required due to a nylon pipe in the cooling system that had the potential to fail at high temperatures.
Ford says that 44,682 Ford cars with the 1.0 EcoBoost engine produced between October 2011 and October 2013 were subject to a Field Service Action that was issued in March 2015 to replace the hoses, and 96 per cent of cars were repaired. The issue was not treated as a safety recall by the Driver and Vehicle Standards Agency because a dash warning light should come on if the car starts to overheat, giving driers adance warning that there is a problem
Not to be confused is a separate problem with the fourcylinder 1.6 EcoBoost engine on C-Max, Fiesta, Focus ST and Kuga, which involves localised overheating and cracking of the cylinder head which could cause a pressurised oil leak, in extreme circumstances resulting in the possibility of a fire in the engine compartmentA safety recall was issued in January 2018 to rectify the issue on 15,200 vehicles, replacing affected parts of the engine and cooling system and adding a coolant level sensor with audible and visual warnings for the driver.
