P... – a total of more than 410,000 vehicles – from the Fiesta hatchback family car to the Transit Connect van. The 1.0 EcoBoost features a cast iron block and cast iron four-bearing crankshaft with six counterweights, with a displacement of 999 cc achieved by a long stroke( 71.5 x 82 mm) threecylinder inline configuration
It has an aluminium alloy cylinder head with four valves per cylinder, an integrated water-cooled exhaust manifold, independent variable timing for both the intake and exhaust camshafts, and a small intercooled Continental low-inertia turbocharger running at up to 248,000 rpm. Somewhat unusual, the low-friction internal camshaft drive belt runs in an oil bath, with a dynamic tensioner, to reduce friction and diminish engine noise.
An electronically controlledariable displacement oil pumpis also used, for improed efficiency and fuel economy, along with a split cooling system with two thermostats, in order to assure a fast warmup period along with efficient high speed lubrication and cooling.

Engine management is by Bosch MED17 with CAN-Bus and individual cylinder knock control, with direct fuel injection into the centre of each cylinder achieved by high pressure 6-hole injectors.
Euro Stage 5 emissions control is assured by a close coupled three-way catalyst system with a heated universal oxygen sensor and a catalyst monitor sensor mounted post catalyst.

The 100 hp version is used in conjunction with a 5-speed Durashift( iB5) manual gearbox, while the 125 hp engine has the 6-speed( B6) Durashift manual transmission, making it capable of a 0-62 mph acceleration time of 11.3 seconds and a top speed of 120 mph for the Focus 5-door model, while the 100 hp 5-speed model achieves a combined fuel consumption figure of 58.8 mpg and is capable of a range of oer 600 miles between refills
CYLINDER DEACTIVATION From early 2018, the 1.0-litre EcoBoost engine has featured cylinder deactivation technology. It is a world first for a threecylinder engine, delivering reduced running costs by automatically stopping one of the engine’ s cylinders when full performance capacity is not needed, such as when coasting or cruising with light demand on the engine. With no compromise in performance or refinement, a new dualmass ywheel and a ibrationdamping clutch disc help to neutralise engine oscillations when running on just two cylinders.
Developed by Ford engineers in the UK, Europe and USA, in conjunction with chaefer roup, the technology improes fuel efficiency by up to 6 per cent, as well as reducing CO 2 emissions, by cutting pumping and friction loses inside the engine. Able to operate at up to 4500 rpm, it can disengage or re-engage one of the three cylinders in 14 milliseconds – 20 times faster than the blink of an eye.
