MINI SPARES POWERLITE LIGHTWEIGHT RACE ALTERNATOR

MINI SPARES‘ GREY’ DIAPHRAGM RACE CLUTCH

Mini Spares is once again able to supply‘ Grey’ diaphragm race clutches for classic Mini engines.
Popularly known as the‘ grey’ diaphragm clutch, the C-AEG482 is the number one choice for serious racers. With a 19 lb. spring as opposed to the‘ orange’ performance type with a 17 lb. spring, it is ideal for use with the Mini Spares sintered clutch plate, although it can also be used with any other competition centre plate.
Retail price £ 63.00 inc VAT. For more details contact Mini Spares on 01707 607 700 or visit the website at www. minispares. com
MINI SPARES POWERLITE LIGHTWEIGHT RACE ALTERNATOR
The GXE1002RACE Powerlite lightweight race alternator is identical to the Mini Spares GXE1002 competition alternator but it comes with a larger pulley to prevent over-charging on racing engines which spend the majority of their time running at high rpm. It weighs 3.2 kg and has an output of 55 amps.
Although designed as a direct bolt-on replacement on pre-1997 Minis, a multi-position mounting bracket means that it is also ideal for other race cars and custom / kit car applications. As it does not take the standard Mini alternator plug, a small amount of wiring will be needed.
Priced at £ 253.18 inc VAT. For more details contact Mini Spares on 01707 607 700 or visit the website at www. minispares. com

LEMFÖRDER SWITCHABLE ENGINE MOUNTS

Under its Lemförder brand, ZF Aftermarket has introduced a range of switchable engine mounts for selected Audi and Mercedes Benz models including the Audi A4, A5, A6, Q5, Q7 and Mercedes C and E Class, GLK, GLC.
Using an integrated air spring, this innovation in design can actuate two different characteristic curves depending on vehicle and rotational speed; something not possible with conventional engine mount components.
‘ This innovation in design supports ZF Aftermarket’ s position of leading the aftermarket into the next generation of mobility,’ says Martyn Houghton, ZF Aftermarket’ s UK General Sales Manager, Automotive.‘ Mainly used in luxury models, the switchable curve of these intelligent components ensures the lowest possible vibration and noise, both when the vehicle is idling and in operation. This offers a solution which meets the highest level of driver comfort at all times.’
Vehicle manufacturers typically use rubber-metal parts or hydraulically dampened engine mounts, but even this approach doesn’ t offer ideal vibration damping under all conditions due to the conicting obecties of its design
To counteract this, switchable engine mounts using an integrated air spring were developed so that one component can meet high-level comfort demands both when the car is in motion and idling.
When the engine is idling, an air spring in the engine mount is activated to absorb the low-frequency engine movements while the vehicle is at a standstill. During driving, the mount switches over to a hydraulic mechanism depending on vehicle speed and rotational speed. Doing so makes the mount considerably harder, simultaneously creating greater freedom of movement for the connected components.
ZF recommends that garages should use OE-quality spare parts, which have the exact same characteristics of the OE part originally installed in the vehicle, and also that all engine mounts always be replaced during repairs, not just the defective part.
