Elring declares Leeds training courses a success

n Trusted automotive parts supplier, Elring, has concluded its training program, which it hosted at The Motorist, Leeds. All trainees had practical training experience in each session, practicing various mechanical tasks on a BMW N47D20 diesel engine. The training took place on Elring’ s own service truck: a US-imported Dodge RAM, equipped with a small engine workshop.
Ahead of each session, Elring supplied a fully-fitted tool box for all trainees, including all of the necessary measurement tools and presentation equipment to outline the important information. Each hands-on training group consisted of between five and 15 people. Training times were subject to variation, due to the course changing between a mixed theory and practical event, to solely practical exercises.
Attendees worked on topics such as dismantling the camshaft carrier and the cylinder head, measuring the piston protrusion, measuring and evaluating the surface quality with a Mahr roughness tester. The sessions continued with cleaning the sealing surfaces, replacing the cylinder head gasket, installing the cylinder head and the camshaft carrier, adjusting the engine timing and the application of different sealing compounds.
Optional topics were also included in the course, depending on timing. These included the replacement of the front and rear radial crankshaft seals( RWDR / OF / PTFE), plus sealing technology on intake and exhaust manifolds, and periphery gaskets like O-rings on injectors and water pump. Each repair step was discussed and solved both within the group as well as individually.
Participants were encouraged to work and have fun. On each day, Elring hosted the head-bolt challenge, where trainees were invited to compete against the clock to replace 10 bolts as quickly as possible.
Open-air training sessions can be arranged for future bookings, with Elring providing the option to include a pavilion for the loading area. Notice in advance is required.
