EVERYTHING YOU NEED TO KNOW ABOUT THE SAT : WHY IT MATTERS
WHAT IS SAT SCHOOL DAY IS AT GISD
The SAT is a standardized test developed and administered by the College Board , designed to assess students ’ knowledge of math , reading , and writing , as well as their college readiness . Students in GISD have the privilege of taking the SAT at no cost during the designated SAT School Day , scheduled for March 26th , 2024 . In past years , SAT School Day was exclusive to juniors , but starting this school year , it is available to all high school students . Even students planning to join the workforce or the military after high school should still plan to take the test .
WHY THE SAT IS IMPORTANT
Taking the SAT opens many doors for students . It can connect students with more than $ 300 million in scholarship opportunities . Good scores could lead to automatic admission and scholarships up to a full ride . Additionally , many colleges publicize the average SAT score of their admitted students , allowing you to compare your student ’ s score with those of students at their preferred college . The SAT focuses on the skills and knowledge needed for success in college and a career . Most importantly , the SAT can help students identify their strengths and weaknesses as they prepare for a career .
HOW YOU CAN HELP YOUR STUDENT PREPARE
This spring , SAT School Day will be offered digitally for the first time , and it will be formulated as an adaptive test , meaning the questions students encounter depend on their previous answers . Helping your student prepare is crucial to their success on the test . Students have access to free personalized SAT prep and practice tests through Khan Academy , which they can access on any digital device through the Ready Hub portal . Students who use Khan Academy for at least six hours can improve their score by 90 to 115 points . For the test day , ensure your student eats a good breakfast and arrives at school with a fully charged Chromebook , charging cord , and their GISD student ID .
