Not all of Beppie’s 12 songs are hers alone but she is able to make them hers anyway. If you’re not already tired of the ‘Baby Bumblebee’ trope, you must check out her rendition. “My one sock is blue and the other is green” on Beppie’s ‘The sock Blues’ track may be the greatest things will hear up to this point. Snapping fingers, stinky socks and an infectious bass groove. Some ideas I like to think of as low-hanging fruit but not in a derogatory sense. The simple idea of a sock becoming blue in a washing machine in the form of a blues song for children is what I live for. No one ever thought to do such a thing before Beppie. That’s the kind of brilliance you’ll find all over ‘There’s a Song Inside Me’. Beppie’s album is so chock-a-block full of musical genres and sounds, it would be impossible to impress in text. Stephanie Nhan, who is also known affectionately as Beppie has been a music teacher for more than 20 years. She truly is amazing. ‘There’s a Song in Me’ may actually be a misnomer. There are many songs inside Beppie and they span everything from rock, roots, classical, rap, country, reggae, pop and a touch of operatics. Not only is ‘There’s a Son in Me’ an authentic piece of art, it also works as an encyclopedia of musical genres for tiny ears. Where some kids may have been raised on a steady diet of forced ‘Yellow Submarine’ or gratuitous amounts of Barney or other terrifying characters, Beppie gives parents an opportunity for change and kids a chance to find out what they really like.

“It’s time to say goodbye my friends until we meet again”. With ‘The Goodbye Song’, the circle completes and Beppie has certainly made friends of us all. And if I remember correctly what it is to be young, making friends is just about the greatest thing there is as a child. Beppie deserves to be heard because her music is amazing, but moreover her heart is decent and kind. Kids need more of Beppie in 2019.
