The Edmonton Muse April 2019 | Page 9

I asked her: What is your art Muse?

"Over a year ago I was so struck by the amount of garbage that was in the ocean and the amount of animals that were dying. As a mixed media artist I have no fear of using unknown items. What I love about painting the most is that I get to explore so many avenues. It feeds my soul daily to paint and I love sharing that with others. It’s naturally exciting to figure out how I could make art out of garbage.

I just finished the NOA this weekend for the first time where I was also in the Art Battle!!! Wow what an experience. Nothing better than be being part of an art family where you all support and cheer each other on!

I would love the Edmonton art scene to continue to grow. More pop ups, more art battles... Even bigger than that, there needs to be more financial aid and support for artist without a bunch of ridiculous hoops to jump through. Real support.

My advice for anyone wanting to dip into mixed media is to go for it. Be unafraid! YouTube, Pinterest, Instagram can inspire you. Check out local art stores about classes. Talk to the artists at art walks, a lot do teach.

I have known about Lotus Art Gallery from the very early stages. I was an artist in residence for a full year and loved the experience. Unfortunately, my schedule got busier and I wasn't able to continue the residency.

Some of the amazing things I will be participating in this year are the following:

Live painting for the U of A Golden Bears men's volleyball team; Fundraiser April 11th Art Reveal; Gossamer Treasures Gallery in Wabaman April 13; 1912 Bakery for the month of May, Hand2hand spring market May 4; ACACA competition and Awards May 10, 11 and 12."

Thanks Jani, It has been a pleasure to know you and wish you continued success in your projects!
