EASTON – The Windy Hill Sawmill, located at 4189 Windy
Hill Road in Easton, was destroyed by fire Wednesday afternoon. The fire was first reported at 2:11 p.m. to be in an
engine in the mill. It was later determined to have started
when sawdust was ignited by a welder. Fire companies from
Greenwich, Easton, Schuylerville, Cossayuna and Middle
Falls responded to the blaze. Thick black smoke could be
seen from miles away and the blaze was marked with numerous explosions. Fire fighters were able to bring the blaze
under control quickly but the mill was a total loss. No injuries were reported however Easton-Greenwich and General
Schuyler Rescue Squads were both on scene. The mill is
owned by the Town of Easton Supervisor Dan Shaw.
