INTERVIEW
Shivangi Mohite
Soumya Ranjan Mishra, a cyclist who has been on several amazing journeys,
some special ones being Pune-Mumbai-Pune in one day and also a trip from
Bangalore to Goa. He had suffered from depression and has made his way
out of it following his passion. Read below to know more.
Tell us a little bit more about your
passion
Well, a passion is something that
would keep you awake at nights
and my love ‘adventure’ doesn’t do
that to me for sure, she instead
gifts me with some of the best
sleeps. But not to mention, she’s
on my mind half the time I’m
awake. Adventure according to me
could be anything that involves you
getting a constructive experience,
you would be preparing a new dish
today or simply trying one, would
you be proposing her out for a date
or sitting in your cabin doing your
research work or would you be
willing enough to risk it to be at
places, be in situations and push
yourself, as long as the thing you’re
doing robs you of your yourself and
fills that space with some of the
most desirable feeling. I could
muster enough courage one day to
go from Bangalore to Goa on a
bicycle, it would be my first ride,
since I had some holiday left and I
was also struggling with my
emotions and thought process
back then that need sorting, and
that was the start.
THE DREAM BOX
What does depression mean, to
you? How did you land there?
Well, every one of us face
problems in life and depression
according to me is something
different. It eats you from within.
To be a bit more accurate, it is a
feeling of being in a deep muddy
swamp, the similarities are- you’re
constrained, you’re in mess, the
more you stay the deeper you sink
The symptoms may be same for
most of us but the reasons could
be different, mine was that I
started doubting myself, which I
later realised I shouldn’t have, I had
insecurities, because my plans
weren’t working out and upon
realisation of the fact that not
every need of yours is fulfilled. I
would refrain from saying that the
world is a nasty place, and contrary
to the statement it cannot be more
beautiful and awesome than it is,
just that we make a mistake about
assuming how things work here
and so when we look at
practicalities our logic breaks down
and we go with it.
