BREATHE &

Do you ever feel like you have absolutely nothing left in a day to give? Your only resolve is to take a nice warm shower and pull the covers up over your head. The reality is, you may have little ones that require feeding, a deadline to meet, or an ailing parent to care for. I know sis, life can be overwhelming at times. The good news is that with God and intervention strategies, you can reset and renew your mind, body, and soul.
By Jeanette Blake, MSW, LCSW
Recently, my mother, uncle, and a dear friend transitioned into eternal rest within a one-month time period in addition to the occurrences of other unexpected life events.
My proactive self-care includes morning meditation, deep breathing, prayer, journaling, and exercise. Additional strategies include mindful eating and structured wellness days. Following the recent events, the strategies became challenging to maintain, and it was time to reset and renew.
Reset and Renew:
• Acknowledge and validate your feelings.
• Recognize your thoughts( thoughts impact feelings and feelings impact actions)
• Review current wellness plan and adjust it as needed with the goal to gradually increase to a healthy baseline. If a wellness plan is not in place, create one immediately( realistic goals).
• Take the time to evaluate social, emotional, spiritual, mental, physical, and financial functioning weekly
In the event your emotional and mental health is well below your baseline( normal level of functioning) please seek professional help. For more information or questions, contact www. holisticarenu. com
