Summer Ready: Nourish and Protect Your Crown

By: Rev. Donna Hayes
It ' s summertime, which means traveling and hitting the beach. If you are anything like me, you want less time getting ready and fussing with hair so you can spend more time having fun with family and friends. Here are my stress-free tips for keeping your hair healthy with protective styling.
Many people opt for braided styles during the hot summer months, which is an excellent choice. The less manipulation, the better for keeping hair healthy. However, you must still ensure you cleanse your scalp and add moisture. Cleansing your scalp and moisturizing your strands during a braided style is essential to preventing breakage, buildup, and scalp issues. Use a Scalp cleansing oil as a pre-treatment to remove buildup. Follow with an antibreakage moisturizing shampoo, which will keep your hair soft and less prone to breakage. Finish with a leave-in conditioner that will replenish moisture in your hair and seal in the moisture with a light hair oil or lightweight cream. With braided styles, you want to focus on the scalp, not the length of the braid. Sis, you don ' t want to spend forever trying to dry them.
Weaves are another fantastic option for summer hair protection. Unlike braids, weaves can be shampooed just like natural hair. Perhaps you ' re a wash-and-go girlie. Be sure to cleanse and deep condition at least once a week. Remember, healthy hair starts from within. So, eat well, stay hydrated, and keep moving. Do this in combination with a good hair care routine. You ' ve got this!
Cheers!
