INFLUENCING OTHER LAND MANAGERS Finding common ground The LDC project will never achieve the desired whole-of-catchment water quality and land management outcomes if the sole focus is on the grazing community. In saying that – the project is not a finger pointing exercise – it’s about gaining an understanding of how other land managers operate, identifying a standard of practice equivalent to what is being asked of the grazing community, then ensuring those responsible for implementing and maintaining on-ground works have the knowledge and commitment to deliver at this level. Several workshops targeted at non-graziers who manage or use land in the BBB have been held, and attended by representatives from councils, mines, government departments and utility providers. The workshops were well received with participants agreeing to work towards a community-wide approach to achieve long-term economic, social and environmental benefits. These a e some of the successful outcomes that have been realised. EIM’s Anatol Stremouchiw problem solving at the workshop. “The meeting was interesting and allowed participants to find out who the other stakeholders were in the catchment and what the bigger picture visions are for the LDC project. I have a good understanding now of where we fit in and what our role can be as one of the ‘other land managers’ in the BBB. Everyone appears to be interested in actually finding out what best practice is for the region and sharing the knowledge they have.” Anatol Stremouchiw - EIM Pipeline Supervisor - Northern Glencore supports remediation efforts Glencore has supported training events and landscape remediation field days th ough financial assistance and in-kind support. Glencore provided in-kind rock for rock chutes undertaken by the Scottville cluster group. The company also shared knowledge of landscape remediation and water quality monitoring techniques at demonstration and community feedback days. Before the end of the project, LDC intends to organise a mine visit in conjunction with Glencore so graziers, delivery partners and collaborators can receive insights into the rehabilitation techniques Glencore uses across its mining operations.
