OPERATIONAL COMMITTEES: NEXTGEN

NextGen Update By Gemma Bellfield and Olya Antle

2026 marks 15 years of the III NextGen Program, which was launched in 2012 to bring together insolvency and restructuring professionals and academics from around the world, offering them a distinguished forum for intellectual exchange, professional growth, and close engagement with more senior leaders in the global insolvency area, the members of the International Insolvency Institute. NextGen Snapshot at 15 Years The III NextGen Program is a special organisation. It not only enables NextGen members to liaise with full III members, who comprise leading figures in the global insolvency and restructuring space, but also enables NextGen members to build meaningful and lasting connections, business relationships and in many cases, enduring friendships, with their peers. Those inducted into the NextGen Program are already recognized as influential contributors in their jurisdictions and are positioned to shape the future of our field. You will find III NextGens advocating before the leading insolvency and restructuring courts around the world, actively participating in the sessions of UNCITRAL Working Group V, speaking on international panels on cutting-edge legal developments in our space, and serving as insolvency practitioners in some of the most significant corporate insolvencies and restructurings affecting the global economy.
There are currently 151 active NextGen members( attending conferences, producing III podcast episodes, writing articles, serving on III committees, and participating in other III thought leadership initiatives) representing 28 countries around the globe. Since the Program ' s inception, some 312 professionals and academics have participated in the NextGen Program.
NextGen @ the III Annual Conference in Montreal, Canada
In addition to participating in the main III annual conference each year, NextGens host their own ancillary one day conference( to which all are welcome), which will be held this year at the Palais des Congrès de Montréal on 14 June 2026.
As in previous years, an engaging and rich program of panels canvassing a range of issues challenging insolvency and restructuring professionals around the world will be on display at the NextGen conference this year:
• The day will begin with a panel undertaking a Comparative Analysis of Restructuring Proceedings across the US, Netherlands, Japan, Brazil and Canada. Panellists will consider common themes across jurisdictions, why and how approaches might diverge, and how this can be managed in increasing numbers of cross-border insolvencies;
• The second panel of the day will consider AI Developments in Legal Practice: the benefits, the pitfalls and how as a practical matter we as insolvency professionals and academics can better and responsibly incorporate AI into our working lives;
