Treasure Chest Painting Here is a step by step guide to achieving the rusty effect. We have used our Treasure chest, you can of course use this technique for any of your projects. Once you have glued and allowed to dry, your treasure chest is ready for embellishing and painting. If you have other embellishments that you want to glue on, now is the time before we get to painting. Use a good gel medium to add resin pieces as normal glue won’t hold as well, and glue from a glue gun will eventually shear off and it is too brittle when hard. I have added some resin embellishments that come with the kit. Once the pieces are dry. We used an old paintbrush preferably one with fairly stiff bristles. We painted on texture paste in lines to indicate a wood effect. Keep adding texture paste until you get the desired effect. Do all sides and the lid. To get the deeper lines we have just used the back of the paint brush to scrape in some lines to indicate planks.
