Instructions for Jo Sonja’s Two-part Crackle Medium Materials required: Jo Sonja’s All Purpose Sealer (APS) Background Paint Colour Jo Sonja’s Décor Crackle Jo Sonja's Crackle Medium Sponges/ soft brush Using this system you will end up with 4 layers of products 1: Base colour (Background colour & APS) 2: Sandwich crackle (Décor Crackle) 3: Top coat colour (either Background colour or Artist colour) 4: Crackle medium If you wish to speed up the drying time for each layer of crackle and paint, you can use a hairdryer, on a gentle heat. If you want to leave each layer to air dry, the drying time will be dependent on the warmth and humidity of the room. Start by preparing the background colour for the base. You can buy the background colours ready mixed or you can make your own colour using the white as your base and adding small amounts of the artist colours to achieve the desired effect. The Metallic colours can be used as a base colour but not as a topcoat colour (the crackle does not work through the metallic paints). Mix the paint with APS approx in ratio 3 paint:1 APS and apply to the surface. The APS helps give a better cover to the base without soaking too far into it. You can apply the paint with either a sponge or a brush, as is your choice.
