Several years ago – well more like quite a few years ago – one of my writers came up to me and said , “ I am going to be walking through London at night this weekend in my bra . Do you want me to write about that event ?”

Needless to say , my first reaction was “ Could you run that past me again .” That was my first introduction to Walk the Walk , now the UK ’ s largest breast cancer grant making charity .
At that time , they were still a fledgling charity that was just starting to get recognized and yes , they did , and still do , walk through London at night in the charity ’ s trademark decorated bras !
We were extremely pleased to accept an invitation to Walk the Walk ’ s 20th Anniversary celebration last Autumn , which was held in The Good Housekeeping Institute in Soho . This also happens to be Good Housekeeping ’ s test kitchen …… “ All the best parties happen in the kitchen ” according to the invitation and this was certainly no exception . In addition , Good Housekeeping is Walk the Walk ’ s Media Partner .
We were greeted with excellent champagne , delicious canapés and delightful , enthusiastic staff members all quite eager to discuss Walk the Walk and 20 years of fundraising . The charity has raised over £ 113 million , money that has funded

vital research into breast cancer as well as providing support for both men and women who face this devastating disease .
Nina Barough founded Walk the Walk in 1996 starting with gathering 13 of her friends to Power Walk with her in the New York City Marathon in bras to raise money for breast cancer . The rest , as they say , is history .
One of the highlights of the evening was an excellent video showing the history of the charity . It was very impressive and a wonderful way to tell their story . Another highlight was an exhibition of mannequins dressed in designer bras from the Walk the Walk Collection . The bras were absolutely amazing !
Walk the Walk now has three MoonWalks … One in London which attracts over 17,000 walkers , one in Edinburgh and one in Iceland .
