The K Shoes Male Voice Choir.

On 6th November K Shoes

Male Voice Choir hosted an anniversary concert to celebrate St John’ s Hospice’ s 30th Anniversary. An audience of over five hundred attended the event in the Westmorland Hall, Kendal. St John’ s Hospice serves patients across North Lancashire and the South Lakes with a range of life limiting conditions, both at the hospice and in the home.
Acclaimed worldwide for their virtuosity, The King’ s Singers treated the regional audience to a repertoire of the very best in vocal ensembles – fully justifying the description,“ A class act with a delightful British wit”. After the interval, K Shoes Male Voice Choir and the Manband of Queen Katherine School, Kendal, delighted the audience with respective solos and joint items featuring all the singers. The highlight of the evening was the encore, which featured the three choirs performing‘ We Rise Again’( Dubinsky, arranged by Stephen Smith). This piece, specially chosen for the occasion by the Musical Director of K Shoes Male Voice Choir, Ian Allan, provided a wonderful and moving blend of sound exemplifying the continuity of song across the generations.
All proceeds from ticket and programme sales, including a very generous exit collection, realised in excess of £ 6,000 for St John’ s Hospice which now needs over £ 4 million annually

to sustain its services. K Shoes Male Voice Choir Chairman, Doug Armitage, commented,“ We all know of friends or relatives who have used the services provided by the Hospice and how much their quality care means to all patients and families. We are delighted that our passion for singing, doing what we love and enjoy, has enabled us to make a difference to our local hospice.”

Asthma Christmas Fair

The Private View of the

34th Asthma Christmas Fair at the Hurlingham Club took place on 22nd November and, as usual, was the start of our Christmas shopping. Over the past 34 years over £ 1 million has been raised for Asthma UK helping to fund research and to support a Helpline staffed by specialist nurses. Sadly every day three families will lose someone to asthma.
The Fair is always well supported with lots of unique stalls, a raffle, a generous Tombola, complimentary wine and soft drinks and a party atmosphere. The main Sponsor, Frank Knight, are incredibly generous and on top of sponsoring the Fair provide shopping bags, balloons and raffle prizes.
Making our way around the Stalls and seeking out our favourites is always fun. Simply
Always well attended with a great variety of unique stalls.
Salmon & Fine Foods are always worth a look, as well as, to try the tasters of their ham and pickles, and The Christmas Cake stall is very popular. A new stall this year for dogs, Onyourbed, make sumptuous dog beds and blankets which can also be used on sofas and in cars!!

and women in prison to do high quality creative needlework within their cells working independently. The aim is for prisoners to finish their sentences with work skills, money earned & saved and the self-belief to stop offending. They currently work in over 30 British prisons. Beautiful cushions, aprons and bags were for sale. This certainly is a great Fair which has gone from strength to strength since its launch by a small committee in 1982.
