Passing the front door , they entered a room that looked like a dining room , except all the furniture had dust cloths over them , leading Grey to guess this room wasn ’ t used very much . Since this room led right back to the kitchen , they went around and checked the windows . To nobody ’ s surprise , they had been painted and nailed shut . Old Man really had taken every precaution to keep them trapped inside this place .
“ We should use a chair or something ,” Lita suggested . “ Break open a window and get the hell out of here .”
“ Not before we give that motherfucker some payback ,” Knives growled .
“ She ’ s right ,” Grey said . “ Besides , the moment he realizes we ’ re gone , he ’ s gonna hightail it out of here . By the time we come back with the cops , he could be miles away .” He thought of H . H . Holmes again , as well as Ted Bundy . Both killers had fled or attempted to flee when the heat got too much for them , leading to their capture and conviction being held up by several months .
