North Carolina State Championships

Last weekend, May 17th and 18th, in Winston-Salem, North Carolina had its High School Championships for Ultimate Frisbee.

There were three Pools. Pool A, Pools B, and the Developmental Pool. Pool A had Green Hope, NCSSM, Carborro, Carolina Friends School (CFS), St. Thomas Moore Academy (STMA), and Enloe. In Pool B: Apex, Sanderson, East Chapel Hill, Chapel Hill, Charlotte Country Day, and Jordan.

In the Developmental Pool had East Chapel Hill B, Chapel Hill B, Green Hope B, and Myers Park.

Each team played four teams from their pool the first day. On the second day, each team played one more team from their pool, then played teams from the other two pools.

The games in Pool A and Pool B go to 11 points. Games in the Developmental Pool go to 15. In Pools A and B, many of the games came down to 10 -10, so whoever got the last point (the Universal point) would win. The Universal point can often last 20 minutes long, which feels like 50 minutes on the field.

In the end, CFS took the 1st place trophy, Chapel Hill A took 2nd place and Carborro took 3rd place. Green Hope A got 7th place. They lost all of their seniors and a few juniors for the Green Hope Prom that weekend.

From Pools A and B, the ranks go as follows:

1st place: CFS

2nd place: Chapel Hill

3rd place: Carborro

4th place: East Chapel Hill

5th place: NCSSM

6th place: Apex

7th place: Green Hope

8th place: Sanderson
