Sisserou ’ s brings the Islands to Brady

TULSA , Okla . – For hungry Tulsans , a taste of the Caribbean is just an Uber drive away . Located on Boston in the heart of the Brady Arts District , Sisserou ’ s Restaurant offers not just the flavors , but the sights and sounds of the islands , too .
Bright , cheery décor and a relaxing reggae soundtrack set the perfect backdrop for a menu that features an array of Caribbean cuisines . Owner Eban Shillingford ’ s family hails from the country of Dominica , and his restaurant serves up the tastes of that home and its island neighbors .

Appetizers like Coconut Shrimp ($ 16 ), six large fried shrimp rolled in spices and coconut flakes and served with a marmalade dipping sauce , or Plantain Poppers ($ 8 ), deep-fried sweet , ripe plantains stuffed with guava and cheddar cheese , are almost a meal unto themselves . For lighter fare , try the Avocado , Tomato and Cucumber Salad ($ 8 ) beautifully arranged on a long white plate . Fresh and flavorful , the simple ingredients are stacked and then topped with a swirl of pickled shallots . The addition of a tangy lemon vinaigrette is the perfect finish .
The sandwiches are a favorite for lunch or dinner . While there is plenty on this menu to satisfy any meatlover , Sisserou ’ s is kind to the veg-heads , too . The housemade Vegetable Burger ($ 10 ) is one of the best in town with its well-seasoned combo of veggies and tofu . Topped with lettuce , tomato , avocado and a roasted red pepper mayo , it ’ s a substantial meal . All sandwiches come with a side of French fries , sweet potato chips , soup or fresh fruit . The homemade chips are fabulous , FYI .
Sisserou ’ s entrees are as generous in portion as they are flavorful . In addition to the regularly featured dishes , there are dinner specials . On a recent Saturday evening , the special consisted of two filets of lemon sole served with roasted potatoes and grilled asparagus ($ 29 ). It was a rich and elegant meal .
The service at Sisserou ’ s is excellent . Friendly , wellinformed wait staff takes pride in their work , and the owner can be seen working alongside . Shillingford makes a point to visit with diners to ensure they ’ re enjoying the meal .
