Made from a real train dining car, this little restaurant (not a lotta wiggle room if you are claustrophobic) has all the bells and whistles. They’ve done as much as possible to keep the look and feel of a 1940s train car and it gets better from there. We went to Heavener for the Viking Festival at Runestone Park and we wanted to check out Southern Belle for a while. It made for a nice day trip with a lot of unexpected pleasant surprises. I didn’t have a lot of expectations for SB’s food; some places that have a theme tend to ignore food quality, but Southern Belle checks off all the boxes. My husband got fried chicken and mashed potatoes with gravy and I tried the chicken fried steak. Both of our meals were homemade (including the mash) and they got everything done tasty. Both of our meals came with gravy that was spot-on (and we weren’t stuck with white gravy as the only choice). I was a little worried that my steak would be tough or chewy, but each bite was tender and could easily be cut with a fork. SB’s prices were quite reasonable; each entree was around $10, and most dinners were in that range. They have a lunch menu consisting of salad, soups, burgers and sandwiches ranging from about $6-$8. SB is handicap-accessible, and they appeared to be quite accommodating. The service was quick, the wait staff was nice and efficient yet we didn’t feel rushed. Worth the drive and the calories, I would make the trek back to Southern Belle for another meal. I just need to find another reason to return to Heavener. And I’m workin’ on it. What really got us was the portion sizes. We each www.thecurrentbuzz.net | 43
