TULSA , Okla . – This St . Patrick ’ s Day escape the green beer and get some world class rock & roll and blues culture instead . The 2017 Experience Hendrix Tour comes to The Joint venue at the Hard Rock Hotel and Casino in Tulsa on Friday , March 17 .

The Experience Hendrix tribute concert concept began in as a one off event at Seattle ’ s Bumbershoot Festival in 1995 . But since that time it has evolved and grown . The expanded Experience Hendrix format has over time become a multi-city tour showcasing a wide variety of big name guitarists influenced by the playing of Hendrix along with contributions from those who knew and played with the Jimi himself . These players are all guitar legends gathered paying tribute to their fellow legend in Hendrix .

Jimi thang : Legendary guitarists invite you to Experience Hendrix By Chris B . Critter

Joining in for Experience Hendrix in Tulsa is Chicago blues legend Buddy Guy , one of the most influential guitarists alive today . Guy ’ s fiery fretwork was an inspiration to the young Jimi Hendrix . Also jamming for Jimi in Tulsa is heavy metal madman Zakk Wylde who is known for his work with Ozzy Osbourne as well as his own band from Black Label Society . Also playing is Dweezil Zappa , scion of the Zappa family musical legacy of amazing guitar work , and Mato Nanji , leader of Native American blues rock band Indigenous .

The lineup continues to astound from there . For example , many music fans can recall when Kenny Wayne Shepherd and Jonny Lang were child prodigies in the blues scene . But these men are well into their 30s now and their music has only continued to becoming more powerful . Both have solidified themselves as integral parts of the Jimi Hendrix legacy through their long-time participation in these tribute tours .

Additional fretwork fireworks will come for gospel steel guitar masters The Slide Brothers . These unique guitarists Calvin Cooke , Chuck Campbell and Aubrey Ghent are from the sacred steel tradition that is unlike any other style of playing . Yet another headline quality name playing is Ana Popovic , a sultry blues guitarist originally from Serbia but who has made a name for herself in places like Memphis and Chicago which are central to the U . S . blues scene . Sidemen for the evening are equally top notch , they ’ ll have to be to keep up with these guitarists ! They include Billy Cox ( bassist from the Jimi Hendrix Experience & Band Of Gypsies ), drummer Chris Layton from Stevie Ray Vaughan ’ s Double Trouble , Scott Nelson ( from Kenny Wayne Shepherd Band ), and drummer Tim Austin ( from Buddy Guy ’ s band ). Also contributing will be Henri Brown , Jimi ’ s cousin , who is a talented vocalist ; also singing will be Noah Hunt from Kenny Wayne Shepherd ’ s band .
