OKLAHOMA CITY – The
Oklahoma City Thunder have
become a fixture on the holiday
circuit. From the moment they
landed in Oklahoma, they have
grown into one of those franchises
the NBA likes to showcase on its
biggest holidays.
That tradition has continued in the
Thunder’s 10 th season in Oklahoma
City. This year they have prime time
games on both Christmas and
New Year’s Eve.
There are five games slated
to play on national TV on
Dec. 25. The Oklahoma City
Thunder and Houston
Rockets will be the
fourth game of the
day. Tip-off is set
for 7 p.m. at
Chesapeake
Energy Arena.
The contests will
feature some of
he biggest names in
the league. Russell Westbrook,
Paul George and Carmelo
Anthony will be taking on the
Rockets James Harden and Chris
Paul.
The Rockets and Thunder have a
history that has been forged during
regular season dust-ups
and postseason
confrontations. But each
team has been completely
rebuilt since Houston
knocked Oklahoma City out of the
playoffs last season.
With both teams expecting to be
one of the final teams standing, this
matchup on Christmas could be a
foretaste of what fans could see in
the postseason.
A little more than a month later
the Thunder will host the Dallas
Mavericks on New Year’s Eve.
Game time is set for 7 p.m. at The
‘Peake.
For the 10 th consecutive season the
Thunder have a home game on
New Year’s Eve. It’s their longest
standing tradition as a franchise.
Despite being just two hours south
of Oklahoma City, the Mavericks
have never played the Thunder on
New Year’s Eve.
Dallas is not having the type of
year they’ve become accustomed
to under Mark Cuban’s ownership.
But since the two franchises have
developed a somewhat testy
rivalry, it could end up to be an
entertaining game to close out
2017.
