Oklahoma Music Hall of Fame; Muskogee, OK 918-687-0800 or www.omhof.com ------------------------------------------------------------------------ OKLAHOMA CITY - “Bringing Good Beef to Hungry People,” is the slogan of the Riders in the Sky band, borrowed from the 1948 John Wayne movie “Red River”. Wayne’s character Dunson talks about his plans for ranching and herding his cattle to market, “bringing good beef to the hungry people,” of America, feeding them and making them strong. The Riders in the Sky aren’t cattle herders, but they do round up some mighty fine Western music, and feed it to hungry audiences, especially during the holiday season. “We’re fossilized music at its best” said Woody Paul, singer, fiddler, and composer in the band of four musicians. The Western music style may be 22 | preserved in time, but the Riders bring it alive, channeling the talents of legends such as Roy Rogers, Gene Autry, and the Sons of the Pioneers. They perform in a style that is homage to the older Grand Ole Opry humorists. Saddle up to some yuletide cheer this December with their Christmas show, “Christmas the Cowboy Way”. The Grammy Award-winning group offers music and comedy on the fiddle, bass, accordion and guitar. Come and expect to hear some mighty fine yodeling. Also expect sequined holiday band outfits, and songs such as “Riding Home on Christmas Eve”, “Deck the Bunkhouse Walls”, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer”, and the “Twelve www.thecurrentbuzz.net Days of Cowboy Christmas”, all accompanied by Western swing. The Grand Ole Opry inductees adopted their name over 30 decades ago, after the Sons of the Pioneers album, Riders in the Sky, and has been encouraging the cowboy and cowgirl in all of us to “live life the cowboy way.” The all ages, family friendly show takes place Dec. 12 at the OCCC Visual and Performing Arts Center, located at 7777 S. May Avenue in Oklahoma City. Reserve your seats today at tickets.occc.edu.
