Historic Ballroom ready to dance with the gypsies

TULSA, Okla. – A musical
circus is coming to the Cain’s
Ballroom, and you want to be
there. Gypsy punk band Gogol
Bordello brings its raucous
party to town October 25, and,
as always, it promises to be a
very good time.
Formed in 1999, Gogol
Bordello is a nine-piece, multi-
cultural, powerhouse of a band.
Based in New York City, the
group pulls its influences as
much from the Big Apple’s
underground rock scene as
it does the Eastern European
sensibilities of its many
members. The result is pure
energy on stage – an unrivaled
live show that is equal parts

Frontman, guitarist and
vocalist Eugene Hutz, is a
wonder to behold as he works
the stage with an enthusiastic
physicality that rivals an athlete
in his prime. The man exudes
charisma, and his audience is
along for the ride from the very
first chords. Backed by plenty
of accordion, percussion and
even some violin, Hutz and his
gang of equally entertaining
musicians define showmanship
without leaving the actual music
behind.
Gogol Bordello released its
seventh record, Seekers and

“I was still bouncing between
Latin America and Eastern
Europe when songs were
emerging, but finally, as soon as
I moved back to New York, it
all came into focus, as it always
did for me here,” Hutz has said
of the band’s new songs which
incorporate everything from
trumpet to marimba. For more information on the
