ver the summer, Rachel Green, early childhood, came across a picture of a baby being ceaselessly bullied via twitter. The child’s name was Lola and she has a severe form of Apert syndrome. Apert syndrome affects the craniofacial area and limbs which causes the skull to close too soon in the womb, as well as, fingers and toes to develop webbing. This syndrome causes disfigured faces and many of the children with this condition suffer from bullying. Lola would be no exception to this suffering. How It All Started After seeing the meme that was created about Lola that reads, “My sister should go to jail for giving birth to this ugly motherf*cker.” Green got in contact with Lola’s aunt, Valarie Thompson, English secondary education. According to Thompson, the family discovered that a random person had stolen a picture from Facebook and created the meme disguising as a relative around May 2013. After the initial sadness, hurt, and anger, the family reported the meme that had spread across the internet like wildfire and figured out a way to spin a negative around. Turning a Negative into a Positive Lola’s mother, Latonya Williams and Thompson created Lola’s Voice to raise awareness of Apert syndrome and the bullying kids undergo because of their appearance. Lola’s Voice has been featured in two Savannah news stations, WSAV and WJCL, the Statesboro Herald, and Something Special Magazine. The family also created a Twitter account and Facebook page in honor of Lola that current H\?
