Letter From The Editor
Throughout my time here at CSU as a student, employee, and now Editorin-Chief, there is one thing that I’ve found to be an important foundation in almost everything I do. That thing is correctness. Whether it is taking a test, training a new worker, or writing a news article, it is most important for me to present the information to someone else in a manner that is 100% accurate and as easy to understand as possible. While this is a mindset I have brought to The Saber staff, we do make errors from time to time. I would like to apologize for two egregious errors that were made in Issue 5, released on Sept. 11, 2013. First, I want to extend a deep apology to Tyler Flood, as well as her dedicated support team, for mistakenly reporting that she had cancer. Flood is actually battling fibroid tumors, not cancer. On behalf of the writer, I would like to apologize, and wish Ms. Flood comfort and good health, and to encourage everyone to donate to her cause. Secondly, I would like to apologize to the Eta Iota Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Inc. for a misunderstanding and poor word choice. The line in question is where the writer compared the weekly singing of the AKA hymn to cult act. I can, however, state with 100% certainty that there was no ill intent behind the line, as the piece’s writer, Latifah “Teefuh” Choice is good friends with AKA member Kala White, who is quoted in the article. The Saber also employs another AKA member, Laterika Peak, to handle our social media pages. I do wish to elaborate on how that sentence is a nice summation of the article’s point. CSU Greeks are making a serious effort to be more visible on campus and showcase their brotherhood and sisterhood in a variety of ways. These displays are their way to combat any notions of “culthood” or being standoffish to non-Greeks. Lastly, I wish to apologize to our readers for the misinformation. We do our best here at The Saber to get you the most accurate, complete, and pertinent news that we can. I ask that you stick with us through these rare errors as we transform The Saber into your one stop shop for campus news.
