THE INSIDE SCOOP
Xavier’s Fosdick is Fabulous
at Inaugural CIAC Open
X avier Junior Chris Fosdick shot 67 (-4) at Black Hall Club in Old
Lyme early this month to capture the inaugural CIAC Open Championship.
Fosdick, a rising senior who has committed to attend Florida South-
ern and hopes to play professionally, defeated Tyler Hahn of Avon (71),
Fairfield Ludlowe’s Jack Boatwright (74) and Greenwich’s Jackson Fretty
(76), who led the Palmer Cup after round one.
It was the first time that the CIAC, in conjunction with the CSGA,
conducted an open championship.
The field comprised 30 players: the top three finishers in the four
boys’ divisions plus
the 12 boys with
the best season-
long scoring aver-
ages across the divi-
sions—24 boys in
all— plus the top
three girls finishers
in the CIAC Girls’
Championship at
Tashua Knolls in
Trumbull, as well as
the three other girls with the season’s best stroke averages.
At Black Hall Junior Morgan Hibbert of New Canaan was low among
girls with 80, placing 14th overall.
Winners of individual championships leading up to the Open were:
Fretty (Division I); Michael Hanratty, Avon (Division II); Tyler Woodward
of Coginchaug (Division II); Anthony Bouvier, Notre Dame-Fairfield (Divi-
sion IV), and Sarah Houle, Newtown, state girls’ champion.
Xavier’s coach, Mike Kohs, said Fosdick played superbly. “Tee to
green he was a machine,” said Kohs.
Though he did not win, Jackson Fretty was upbeat about the day. “I
am really excited that they decided to run this event,” Fretty said, still glow-
ing from Greenwich’s wins in both the FCIAC and Division I state titles.
“We wanted to win FCIACs and states and we were able to accomplish that,
which was amazing. “
